ISABEL Stakeholder Event in Asturias

August 12, 2026

Researchers from the University of Oviedo presented the latest ISABEL research findings to policymakers, public authorities, business representatives and social stakeholders in Asturias, Spain.

The event brought together key regional actors, including representatives of the regional government, the Asturian Society for Industrial and Economic Studies, the SEKUENS Agency, employers’ associations, trade unions and other social organisations.

During the meeting, the research team presented an overview of the current structural situation of the Asturian economy, focusing on the opportunities and challenges associated with the green transition, digitalisation and the growing role of artificial intelligence. The presentation was followed by an open discussion on future regional policy priorities, with the exchange also providing input for the development of Asturias’ Smart Specialisation Strategy for 2028.

The event continued with interviews and a focus group conducted as part of ISABEL’s qualitative research activities. Participants expressed optimism about the opportunities arising from the green and digital transitions, while highlighting the need to strengthen AI-related skills and training for workers and organisations.
