ISABEL at the RGS-IBG Annual International Conference 2026

The ISABEL project was represented at the Royal Geographical Society with IBG (RGS-IBG) Annual International Conference 2026 in London, United Kingdom, contributing to the scientific discussion on regional labour market transformations in the context of the green and digital transitions.

ISABEL’s Scientific Coordinator, Nikos Kapitsinis, presented initial analytical insights from the project’s research on job creation and job destruction across European regions and occupations over the period 2011–2023.

The presentation explored emerging patterns in employment change and examined how the green and digital transitions are reshaping regional labour markets across Europe. Particular attention was given to differences across regions and occupations, contributing to a better understanding of the implications of the twin transitions for employment and regional labour market transformation.

Participation in the conference provided an important opportunity to share ISABEL’s ongoing scientific work with the international research community, exchange perspectives with researchers working on related topics and further strengthen the project’s scientific visibility.

As ISABEL enters its next phase, the analyses will be further developed and refined, providing more detailed evidence on job creation and destruction, changing skills needs and the regional impacts of the green and digital transitions.
